The Palio, continued

I am adding my own photos now of the event.
If you look at the video I posted last of the actual race, follow the horses from the start line- I was standing about four people back from the fence about 3/4 of the way from the start line to the first corner. Wearing a green shirt and a red headband (The colors of the winning contrada, we realized after the race!) Ok, you can't actually see me in the video, but I was there!
I took a lot of pictures, and I am going to post them now. Then you can see the event from a spectators eyes.
First, the Provaccia! We were on the fence for the Provaccia.
The horse of...Drago? I can't remember and I can't see the colors on here, but I think it was Drago. This is after the Provaccia was "run"

The horse and Jockey of Pantera. The Jockey is in red white and blue on the right hand side of the photo.

The crowd at the Provaccia. Compare later to crowd at actual Palio

THE PALIO
The beginning of the Parade. People representing the Comune of Siena. Comune is a word for community, basically. Hundreds of years ago, it meant that the people were ruling, not only the nobility.

There were more of us. But this was the only angle I could get!

GIRAFFA! :)

Lupa

Giraffa banners flying in the air in front of the Palazzo Pubblico. The horses come of the door on the right.
